How to Find A Home Inspector

Question: How do I find a home inspector?

Answer: In the State of Wisconsin, home inspectors are registered by the State of Wisconsin. To become certified by the State, a home inspector must pass a written exam demonstrating their knowledge of home construction and the components inside your home.

In addition to being registered by the State of Wisconsin, many home inspectors are members of ASHI. The American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI) has developed formal inspection guidelines and a professional code of ethics for its members. Membership to ASHI is not automatic; proven field experience and technical knowledge of structures and their various systems and appliances are a prerequisite. For a list of qualified inspectors, many of whom I have worked with, who belong to the South Central WI Council of Home Inspectors, click here. The council members listed in this web site are registered as professional home inspectors with the State of Wisconsin and will provide home inspections in accordance with the Standards of Practice established by the State.

For a list of  inspectors who do specialized inspections such as rental weatherization, mold, radon, pet urine, lead paint, asbestos, EIFS stucco, commercial buildings, etc, click here.
